About Gearhed Design & Fabrication
I'm Zack, and Gearhed Design & Fabrication is my CAD and 3D printing shop in Lexington, NC.
My background is automotive. I'm a graduate of NASCAR Technical Institute in Mooresville, NC, and of the Mercedes-Benz Elite Advanced program, and I've worked as a Mercedes-Benz technician for 12 years. I'm also a Certified Diagnostic Technician (CDT). I've been interested in all things mechanical for as long as I can remember, and I have a knack for understanding mechanical engineering.
I work in Onshape. I model from the print the way a machinist or fabricator would read it: datums first, every note read, every tolerance taken seriously. When a drawing is missing something or contradicts itself, you hear about it before I build anything, not after.
On the printing side, I run an enclosed Creality K2 Plus with a Micro Swiss FlowTech hotend upgrade and hardened steel CHT nozzles. That lets me print large parts in engineering materials, including carbon-fiber nylon. I measure what I ship.
